Viola & Baroque Violin

Viola & Baroque ViolinViola & Baroque Violin

My earliest musical memories are from childhood in Osaka, Japan, listening to my mother teach piano at home, studying violin and viola with patient, nurturing teachers, and playing in school orchestras with friends who shared a love of music. I moved to the United States as a teenager and later studied at New York University, crossing the pond to continue my studies at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and the Royal Academy of Music in London.

Now based in New England, I perform as a soloist, chamber, and orchestral musician, often collaborating with friends and colleagues across repertoire spanning early music to contemporary works. As a baroque violinist, I find joy in bringing the masterworks of the Baroque era to life, and as a modern violist, I am just as drawn to the sound world of British composers shaped by English Romanticism and the twentieth-century folk revival.

Deeply committed as a viola and violin instructor, every day, teaching reminds me how unique each musical journey can be, and it’s a privilege and joy to share in that discovery. I believe music nourishes the soul much like food sustains the body. Just as we seek meals that comfort and energize us, we turn to music to feed something deeper, something timeless, emotional, and profoundly human.
